Congratulations on your decision to commission a professional watercolor portrait.
I use only the finest permanent, professional grade pigments and museum-grade papers, ensuring your investment is sound, and the joy you derive from your work of art will be passed down for generations. I trust you are anticipating the pleasure and satisfaction of owning a valuable work of art that not only captures the physical likeness of its subject exactly, but also conveys the unique spirit of that individual.
Your custom portrait connects you to some of the oldest artistic traditions, yet will reflect the life, energy and sophistication of an updated style. Whether it captures the sweetness of a child, the hope of a new bride, the accomplishment of a scholar, the stature of a leader, or the wisdom of an elder, your portrait will honor the season and preserve it for time to come.
First, we will prepare an agreement. The agreement includes the details of your portrait--size, number of people and possible settings or backgrounds. A 50% deposit of the estimated total cost of your portrait is due upon signing the agreement.
Second, we will meet and view the space where your completed portrait will hang. This will help make the best choices regarding size, pallette, mood, clothing and possible settings or backgrounds of your portrait.
Third, I will meet with the subject or subjects for an interview and photo session. This will take approximately two hours and is meant to be a relaxed and enjoyable time. I will interview the subject first. This interview will consist of some general questions (interests, studies, work, etc.) and sometimes and invitation to share memories or stories from the subject's life.
I will take a large number of photos. We work together, trying various poses. At this stage it is very important to remember these photos are for reference only and not the final product. I do not approach this session like your photographer does. From these photos, I will select two or three that will best make the transition to painting. From these I will make preliminary designs and sketches which will be reviewed with you in person, via e-mail, or mail. Then you direct me regarding from which sketch you would like me to create your final portrait.
I will return to my studio and complete your portrait in my distinctive style. This may take up to one month. When complete, I will deliver or ship your custom portrait to you. At this time, the remaining balance is due, along with any other additional expenses.
To begin your portrait, please contact us at 765.427.4837 or by e-mail: jenny@jennyhulen.com
(Prices quoted are for your portrait only, and begin at $1,500 for a portrait of any size up to 22 × 30 inches containing only one subject (with a plain background). Additional people, detailed backgrounds, the inclusion of animals and other requests will involve additional charges. Travel, shipping, framing and sales tax (where applicable) are not included. The client specifically grants permission to the artist Jenny Hulen to use a likeness of the portrait for the artist's advertising and promotional purposes unless otherwise specified in writing. The artist agrees not to identify any subject without permission. If for any reason the painting is refused or the process discontinued, the artist retains the painting, reference photos and the 50% deposit.)
